Hey gang! Mike Tener here, Creative Director for Bad Bug Media.
Wanted to share with you all this book that I’m immensely proud of as well as the creative team behind it. I say “team” when it’s two guys - Jason Pell and AJ Bernardo - who’ve put this whole thing together.
Jason Pell is a fellow West Virginian comic creator whom I met YEARS and YEARS ago. At the time, he was an established creator, writing for publishers and producing his own self-published work. He’s a hard working creative that picked up a lot of skills along the way. In this example, he’s coloring the issue over AJ Bernardo’s line art…and it turned out great!
Before this silent issue existed, we had the trade paperback of Bear Skin vol. 1 which tells the story of Andy, a delusional man in a bear suit who can see parasitic, demonic monsters that hide inside the flesh of humans. To the general public, he’s a psychotic serial killer…but he’s really the only thing left that can save the small town who fears him from the otherworldly threats that seek to consume their flesh.
Here was the link to that successful campaign. You can pick that book up with this campaign too. I highly suggest that you do so! It was a fantastic read with beautiful artwork from Jok, who now illustrates for Image Comics!
An entire story told in absolute silence about a girl who is deaf checking into a bed and breakfast that quickly becomes a monstrous warzone between a psychopath in a bear suit, his slew of cubs, and a monstrous entity that stalks the grounds.
Watching the pages unfold without discussions and heavy exposition is pretty refreshing to me. Sometimes we forget that the art of making a comic book is that it's visual storytelling and this one is a great example of that.
Happy to have this team and book at Bad Bug. Make sure you all check it out and support a great creator who, in so many ways, pushes the boundaries and tells interesting and innovative stories!
BEAR SKIN, BEAR SKIN, BEAR SKIN!
Oh…and a cool nod to the silent issue of G.I. Joe was illustrated by Jason Pell as well. You can pick up this fun homage on the campaign too.
