The Rotted Lyre #1-2
For the uninitiated, we’ll give you a quick rundown of what Discordia and The Rotted Lyre are all about!
What is Discordia?
Discordia is both the name of the gothic independent comic book series and the name given to the continent of Odessa that was formerly controlled by the Concord, a fascist empire that united the people of Odessa against the monsters that plagued their world. After its mysterious downfall, reality seemed to shift in the provinces of the Concord, leading to even more horrific monstrosities than ever existed before.
What is The Rotted Lyre?
The Rotted Lyre is a collection of poems, legends, and folktales illustrated by several accomplished artists fleshing out the world of Discordia (formerly Odessa), leaving subtle clues tot he main storyline. Don’t worry, if you haven’t read Discordia you don’t need to in order to enjoy the haunting tales found within The Rotted Lyre.
Issue #1 was about the kingdom of Alventi, while Issue #2 is set in neighboring Loreventi. We’ve got a hidden court of dark fae, a rather unpleasant well-dweller, a sadistic tree, and a haunted island in this one!
The framing narrative follows a professor from the Sinoch University who is piecing this fractured lore together to publish it in the university publication known as The Rotted Lyre. All the while he is being stalked by his primary source, the undead bard Bendelwynn.
No knowledge of the world of Discordia is needed to enjoy this one. Each short stands on its own and showcases a creepy legend about a different corner of the world, complete with introductions from the professor who scoffs at the supernatural elements all while being stalked by the undead!
While it is presented like a traditional comic it doesn’t have any dialogue or word balloons of any kind. It would be a great jumping-in point for a horror fan who isn’t sure about comics yet.
There are 16 countries in Odessa, so expect 16 issues of the Rotted Lyre!
