Thought I’d talk a little bit about Midnight Highway.
Here’s the pre-launch link too.
Rad little variant cover from Mike Mahle - check out his work. He makes some great film posters.
So…Midnight Highway was an absolute PASSION PROJECT. I wasn’t ready to make it right away when I was getting into making comics, because I was still wanting to learn more about the comic making process. I was really scared of screwing it up.
I knew what I wanted as the general concept, but I needed a second opinion. I needed a co-writer. I was really hesitant about sharing this with anyone. This was my baby. I couldn’t bear letting it get hacked and torn apart by someone who didn’t know or care for its DNA which was always intended to be an homage to 80’s horror and science fiction.
Alex Maday was a perfect choice as a writing partner - he’s helped turn Midnight Highway from what it was to what it IS (which is so much better.) Dave Lentz, our letterer and editor at the time, and the rest of the art team of Malyshev and Hedwin (#1) and Kevin (#2 and #3), all left their impression on the project as well. Their valuable, artistic input shaped the course and scope of the story. Without them, this wouldn’t been a hollow attempt.
If you’re an aspiring creator or an active one, my best advice is to always get your team involved. So much wisdom and experience should never go untapped.
Stay humble!
Here’s a sneak peak of one of the sections on the Midnight Highway #3 Kickstarter.
I also wanted to remind you that Grandma Chainsaw (now with Source Point Press) is running a cross-promotion with Midnight Highway.
Get this intense-as-fuck pinup for backing both campaigns (must be physical tiers).
I think that’s pretty sick. Don’t you? Brian Balondo always comes up with great imagery.
You know where I want to go…
Full disclosure, Sean has been getting this and I haven't read it yet. That's gonna change as soon as he gets this one in.
